Age 9 living with father William, a groom (domestic) at Holme Pierrepont Hall, born in Radcliffe on Trent, and mother Agnes, born in Cartmel, Lancs., sisters Mary Ann 16 and Olive 11, brothers George, 13 a farm boy, Fred 7, Harold 5, Herbert 3 and Sam 1. They lived on Main Road, Radcliffe on Trent.

Age nineteen living with father William, a domestic chauffeur (to Dr Campbell) mother Agnes, sisters Mary Ann, a chemical packer (Boots), Olive, a blouse machinist, Eleanor May, eight, at school and Marjorie Annie, five, at school, brothers Harold, a butcher’s apprentice, Fred, a nurseryman labourer, Herbert, an errand boy (grocers) and Sam at school. They lived in a house with six rooms on Bailey Lane, Radcliffe on Trent. He was employed as a bricklayer’s labourer.
