1901 Census

Age 2 living in Radcliffe on Trent with his father, Robert Bell age 25, from Highgate London, mother Ada Bell, from Cotgrave, Notts  and brother Samuel, one month old. They lived on Mount Pleasant. Robert was working as a platelayer.

1911 Census

Age 12, at school, living in house on Mount Pleasant, father Robert a gardener and verger, siblings Samuel Earnest, age 10, Sarah Elizabeth, age 7, George Charles, age 3 and John Alfred, two months old.  The house had four rooms.

Pension Record Card

Edward Upton Bell was diagnosed with Pulmonary Tuberculosis on his discharge from service on 28 November 1919. On 6 September 1920 his claim for a pension was rejected and the subsequent appeal on 7 March 1921 was also disallowed. However, he was awarded an interim payment of 40 shillings per week on 24 June 1922 for 100% disability, and on 10 July 1922 a pension of 40 shillings (£2) per week was confirmed.

Edward Bell was still alive when the Radcliffe on Trent war memorial was unveiled in March 1921. His name was added subsequently.

Edward Bell died on 22.9.1922 of tuberculosis of the lung. He was an army pensioner. The death was registered by his brother George Bell, who would have been fourteen years old.
