Military Service

From Absent Voters List 1918

Rank: Private

Service Number: H276439

Military Unit: A Company, Nottinghamshire Yeomanry, Sherwood Rangers (Cyclist)

Theatre of War: Unconfirmed

Medals Awarded: No details available

It has not been possible to confirm the details on the Absent Voter list from other sources. The 1/1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry saw action at Gallipoli, Salonika and Egypt. The 2/1st and the 3/1st were based in the U.K. during the war. We do not know for certain in which of these battalions Alfred Mills saw service. However, the 2/1st was converted to cyclists in August 1917 and joined 11th Cyclist Brigade in the Cyclist Division where it remained until the end of the war, in the Canterbury area. (Wikipedia). It seems probable therefore that Alfred served in the 2/1st and remained in the U.K.
