Note: In the censuses below Arthur is recorded as the nephew of Matilda Gething. However, according to his baptism and the inscription on his gravestone Matilda was his mother.

Age 18, born in Newark, employed as a grocer’s assistant and living with Matilda Gething, 59, who was living on own means together with William 26 a nephew of Matilda and son of William Burford Gething, Matilda’s brother; he was employed as a baker-confectioner and was born in London.
